The European Club Education Foundation (ECEF) would like to thank all those who submitted nominations for the 1st Joe Perdue Bursary. The Judging Panel met in early August to review all entries. The criteria used to pick the most eligible candidate were:-
1. Their support of CMAE and its education programmes.
2. Their goals in attending an MDP Course within the next 12 months.
3. The funding already available for their CPD.
4. The impact which the successful candidate will make upon their colleagues and their area of influence.
After lengthy discussions there was unanimous agreement that the inaugural Joe Perdue Bursary be awarded to:-
Scott Patience, Club Manager, Reigate Heath Golf Club.
Scott will now be invited to attend an MDP course of his choice, within the next 12 months, and his course fees will be paid by the Bursary.
The runner-up was Gabriel Sota, Director of Golf, Golf Club Ramon Sota, Cantabria, Spain.
Gabriel will be given a free invitation to a one-day seminar, within the next 12 months, by Club Managers Spain.
Nigel Cartwright, CEO, ECEF, who chaired the panel, thanked the entrants “ it was exciting to see the range and quality of these entrants but the judges were unanimous in their decision.
We look forward to hearing Scott’s experiences on his 5 day residential MDP course.”
Commenting on his Bursary, Scott said “I was very proud to be nominated for the Joe Perdue Bursary and I am absolutely delighted to be the first recipient of this prestigious award.
My club, Reigate Heath, is equally delighted that I will be attending the CMAE Management Development Programme and shares my belief that continued professional development is essential in keeping up to date with training, knowledge and skills relevant to my role. As a PGA Professional and Club Manager, I know I will be able to utilise the skills learnt to benefit both my club and the golf industry. I hope to prove to be a worthy winner of this bursary.”
Scott will use his bursary to attend the forthcoming MDP 1 course at Warwick University, 25th – 29th January 2016.
The European Club Education Foundation (ECEF) is the fund-raising arm of the Club Managers Association of Europe (CMAE) and was created in 2011. Its mission is to provide financial support for Club Managers professional development through education, training and research initiatives.
The Joe Perdue Bursary was launched in 2015 following the untimely death of Joe Perdue in January this year. Joe had served as Academic Advisor for the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) for nearly 30 years. Here in Europe, Joe was a founder member of the CMAE Education Policy Board, where, thanks to his vision and generosity and that of CMAA, he enabled the development of CMAE’s Management Development Programme (MDP) through the gift of the BMI programme and its adaptation for the European Golf, Sports and City Club Markets.
